Walter Hood is founder and creative director of Hood Design Studio in Oakland. His tripartite practice — Everyday, Lifeways, and Commemoration — grounds each project in the social and ecological specificity of its place. Landmark projects include the Oakland Museum of California garden, the International African American Museum in Charleston, and the Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing park in Jacksonville. Hood is a MacArthur Fellow (2019) and 2025 Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medalist in Architecture.
